Dreamland

Posted by Don Dueck on May 9, 2008

Over the past few months I’ve been having lots of dreams where I am either back in high school or back in university. Last night I finally graduated from high school. Now to just finish up my degree and maybe those stupid dreams will end.

Nightmares

Posted by Don Dueck on July 4, 2007

I had a lot of trouble falling asleep last night. When I finally did drift off, I had a very long and disturbing nightmare. Most of it took place in that same alternate reality University of Manitoba that has been in some of my dreams before. I spent a lot of time in certain parts of the campus, which I really should map but I just can’t be bothered to at the moment.

One section of the university campus contained a long building which had apparently been abandoned. That’s where the worst of the dream took place. The area had two entrances, one from the main campus tunnels and another from the outside. You could not go through the building from one entrance to the other because it was blocked off at one point.

The nightmare could be broken up into two phases: one in which a psychotic professor, played by Christopher Walken, inflicted psychological and emotional damage on me and two other students, as well as putting students in physical danger by ‘unlocking’ a main stairway that could act like a teeter-totter along its midpoint.

The second half of the nightmare started in the university and featured two characters who were trying to injure or kill me. One was some goth-type guy reminiscent of Criss Angel, and another was a black gangsta rapper (he looked famous, but I don’t really know my gangsta rappers). The Criss Angel-guy also had a girlfriend who played some strange woodwind instrument that had dozens and dozens of holes in it.

Anyway, this second part of the dream had some dream-within-a-dream elements to it, i.e., I slept and dreamt in the dream. This was the second dream this week in which I did that. The previous dream (Monday night, maybe?) involved me using my laptop computer in bed at my grandparent’s old house.  There was something about researching and comparing two photos of a ghost and having something under my bed pull at my mouse cord in a dream within the dream.

So, yeah, last night’s dream was altogether too long with quite a lot of frightening imagery in it.  I can imagine how terrifying it must be to be on a bad ‘trip’ if you end up seeing the kinds of stuff I saw.

Now, if I could only remember what those undead, rotting babies were chanting as they slowly made their way toward me, crawling on broken limbs in that abandoned university building…

Alternate Reality

Posted by Don Dueck on June 18, 2007

I had another dream in that alternate reality again. This time I talked with two neighbors from across my back lane. The first guy — whose house was directly opposite mine — wasn’t really interested in talking to me. When he said his name, it sounded like he said “Daniel”, but when he spelled it, it was something like “Danahjo” (A quick google brings up only one result for that word — it appears to be a the username of some spammer on a private message board). For some reason this guy was throwing out a complete Voltron figure, which I swiped from his trash pile in the back lane.

The other guy was the neighbor to the right of the first guy, when looking across the back lane from my house. He was much more talkative and friendly, but, for some reason, he wouldn’t give me his name when I introduced myself. He described our neighborhood as being known by the term “M&M”, for some reason. He then proceeded to show off his M&M candy themed wall clock, as though it could be appreciated on another level seeing as how it was in the neighborhood known as “M&M”.

I’m also getting faint recollections of being in a school again. I think it was the alternate reality high school. Maybe more will come to me later on.

In Dreams

Posted by Don Dueck on June 3, 2007

For the past two or three years I’ve had most of my dreams (the few that I can actually remember) take place in an alternate reality version of my home town. Last night’s dream was about me selling my house and moving into an apartment in the south end of the city. My reason for the move was that I had “too much space” living in a house. I’m guessing this may have had something to do with the fact that I needed to mow my larger-than-average lawn (my property is one-and-a-half lots in size).

After several weeks of rain with no chance of mowing it inbetween showers, my grass had grown longer than I’ve ever had it before. I’m guessing maybe eight inches high. Maybe ten. Tall enough that it started producing seeds, at any rate.

It was pretty depressing to move into this apartment. I got the feeling that I had made a big mistake in doing so. I don’t think I could ever live in an apartment. I like the freedom of living in my own home.

Now that I have completed Phase One of mowing my lawn (i.e. mowing it on the highest blade adjustment), I may have to worry about more dreams where I move out of a house. Weather permitting, Phase Two should be complete by tomorrow evening.

I’m still stumped, however, as to the reason behind the wife of the apartment superintendant leaving giving me an assortment of corrective lensewear from the nineteenth century…
