A pseudo-remake of the original Death Race 2000 movie is coming out this year. My brother sent me a link that had some very, very nice photos.
Hopefully this movie doesn’t turn out to be 90% “prison drama” and only 10% “death-racing action”.
This brings to mind two good post-apocalyptic destruction car-racing boardgames: Thunder Road and Wreckage. Check them out, if your into board games and like this genre (though you’ll probably have to hit eBay for Thunder Road).

I do not hold high hopes for the new G.I. Joe movie that is scheduled to come out next year. It looks like yet another movie designed to cash in on the nostalgia of 80s youth, but with many of the defining characteristics sucked out of it.
Here’s a list of some of the things that are terribly, terribly wrong with the new movie:
Just look at Stormshadow. On the left, we see a highly skilled ninja. Look at his eyes! You don’t screw around with a sword-wielding man with those eyes! He’s got knives and ninja stars ready to go — he’s ready for action!
This is what he’s probably thinking: “I AM GOING TO KILL YOU!!! RRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Now, compare him with the “Stormshadow” on the right. He looks like some emo on his way to a comic-con. He’s got the “popped-collar douche” look going on and is sportin’ clean, white ninja sneakers. I can’t tell if he’s getting ready ready to kick some ass or if he’s preparing to go to a rehearsal as part of his buddy’s wedding party.
This is what he’s probably thinking: “Oh no. I forgot to upload the latest My Chemical Romance CD onto my iPod. I’m going to go cut myself.”
Man, why do so many film producers think that the things that helped turn toys, comics, and such into popular cultural themes are not necessary when an attempt is made at creating a film based on these themes? It was bad enough when Transformers got put through the Hollywood shit-grinder; now G.I. Joe, too?

I am so tempted to buy an R2-D2 Wireless Webcam…
Someone give me permission to drop $400 for this thing. I could so use this to spy on my rabbits when I’m away from home.

This is interesting: an online, streaming TV archive of September 11 to 13, 2001. You can view what was on TV during the 9/11 tragedy on the ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN, and BBC networks.
Watch the event that the US administration used to turn the United States into a nation of fear, ready and willing to give up any and all liberties for the appearance of safety.

I saw a sneak preview of the new Iron Man movie last night. What a fantastic action movie! Easily the best out of all the ones that have come out in the past two decades, right up there with Batman Begins. Everything from the acting to the pacing of the movie was superb. Robert Downey Jr.’s performance was great!
Even if you don’t know anything about Iron Man (I knew very little going in), you will still enjoy this movie.
PS: There’s an extra scene after the credits. I missed it, unfortunately.
PPS: For Galaga fans: listen for the Galaga “shoot” sound effect from the suit’s HUD while Stark is testing it out.

Finally, The Nude Bomb (a.k.a. The Return of Maxwell Smart) is coming out on DVD, not doubt due to the soon-to-be-released movie Get Smart starring Steve Carell (which I am also looking forward to). While The Nude Bomb was not very faithful to the original TV series from the sixties, it’s still a good movie on its own.
“It appears you are not a complete fool, Mr. Smart. Almost — very close! — but not complete.”

Sweet! Someone has uploaded a bunch of the old NFB Vignettes that CBC used to show on TV oh-so-many years ago!
How’s that for a bit of Canadiana?

An A-Team movie is apparently in the works. Please let the two rumored cast members be a joke.
Let me suggest a better cast:
Probability of getting this cast: 0%.
Probability of this movie ending up as typical Hollywood FAIL: 98%
